Falling Into Winter

Andrea Youniss, Student Life Writer

Deep moss green, crimson, and burnt orange leaves blanket the indurated ground. Gossamer clouds in the nebulous sky pour down light rain drops that disseminate a permeating aroma of dust and earth.

Ok, so maybe not every autumn day is picture perfect. We’ve all woken up, taken one look out of the window into the gloomy morning, and refused to get out of bed. Or maybe we’ve stepped outside on a Sunday and felt the bitter cold winds pierce at our goose-bumped skin. Nonetheless, both autumn and winter have some really really good things about them:

  • Flickering candles
  • The smell of cinnamon, gingerbread, and pumpkin
  • Homemade soup
  • Watching movies snuggled in blankets
  • Brown buttered anything
  • Lots of bed covers to curl up in when the entire house is frigid
  •  Fuzzy SOCKS! (any kind will do)
  • The crackling of the fire
  • Christmas music
  • A warm cup of tea filled to the brim to warm chilly hands
  • Popcorn & board games
  • Apples
  • Crisp air
  • Cuddling (especially with dogs)
  • Making s’mores with gooey chocolate, honey graham crackers, and giant marshmallows
  • Reading a good book with a thousand blankets while it pours outside
  • Time almost slows down
  • Comfy PJ’s and oversized sweaters
  • Family & friends
  • Winter sunrises and sunsets
  • The look of untouched snow
  • Long walks
  • The glow from the Christmas tree when everything else in the house is off
  • The abundance of love is so gargantuan that it is as if it is tangible

Those small phrases are just a glimpse into my cold loving, hug giving, and popcorn eating self. What are your favorite fall and winter things?!
