Varsity Field Hockey: All Systems Go!

Heather Meeder, Staff

The noise on the sideline increases as you hear the rattling of the field hockey sticks. The parents start to cheer as we warm up before our game. Shooting, dribbling, passing, we mentally and physically prepare ourselves for each and every game. This year, our varsity field hockey team consists of 24 girls. The team this year is a mix of all the grades. This year is considered a rebuilding year, but overall, we have really demonstrated great dynamics and team work. Whether it’s the dreaded Manchester sprinting drill or pushing ourselves in the dribbling drill, we have the optimism and determination to be the best we can be! Our team motto this year is “all systems go”! As a team, we are united, and each individual part helps the “machine” or team to work. Our team bonding consists of pasta parties, Bertucci dinners, and bowling nights, and we can’t wait to bond on and off the field even more.

Field Hockey is solely based on the team and your players around you. It is entirely a passing game and is dependent on your players. Without other field hockey players, you would not be able to play the game. Did you know that that all field hockey sticks are right-handed? Men’s field hockey (Yes, in other countries men play field hockey.)  has the fastest swing speed of any sport, including golf and baseball, and it’s the national sport of Holland!

Do you think you want to play field hockey? Or you can even watch and support NDP’s Varsity and JV Team? Field Hockey is a lot of fun, and I hope to see you at one of the games! Go Blazers!
