While this year’s senior New York trip was an absolute success, faculty want to allow future seniors to enjoy a new experience and exchange the concrete jungle for…Shrek’s Swamp! While it may seem like a drastic shift in a getaway location, you’ll find that vacations are like onions, and similarities are clear once you peel back the layers!
Many might wonder where they’ll get to stay and what natural landmarks they can find in the swamp. Traditionally, seniors get to see Central Park, a landscape located in the center of the city featuring lakes, bridges, and trees. Shrek’s Swamp clearly delivers this, with its charming mud pools and mossy surroundings. As for lodging, seniors stayed at the Hilton Hotel this year, known for its many amenities and proximity to Times Square. However, the swamp offers a more environmentally friendly alternative, as it does not employ electricity. Each room in Shrek’s tree-stump will be stocked with one of his famous earwax candles instead of the harsh lamps used at the Hilton.
Some may argue that Shrek’s Swamp offers none of the metropolitan splendor that the Big Apple does, but they would be sorely mistaken. In actuality, the swamp is a mere two days’ journey from the prosperous kingdom of Duloc, ruled by the enigmatic Lord Farquad. Upon entering the kingdom, students will be greeted and serenaded by the cheerful animatronic Duloc dolls. During the traditional New York trip, seniors enjoy two Broadway shows, getting the opportunity to watch some of the most talented actors in the country perform. In Duloc, students will get to see a lively tournament hosted by Lord Farquad, which features the kingdom’s best knights jousting.
Clearly, Shrek’s Swamp is the future of senior getaways. Plan your activities now and look out for fairytale creatures!
