The third quarter, notorious for its rigorous academics and Gym-Meet fever, brings an extra wave of excitement with the debut of businesses chartered by the Applied Economics classes. The class, a course teaching the principles of economics, employs an engaged pedagogy, allowing students to have first-hand experience in entrepreneurship. This year, three new businesses have offered their wares to the NDP community: Clips for Love, which sells spirited hair clips; Second Chance Scents, which offers perfumes and air fresheners for cars; and Shine and Shelter, which creates calming candles!
Clips for Love offers a variety of adorable claw clips, allowing customers to find the perfect match for their class and style! Currently, they are selling three different kinds of clips. The first is an “initial clip,” which has a soft pink base and allows customers to personalize with their own initials. The second is a class colors clip, which offers four different variations: pink and mint for the freshmen, pink and yellow for the sophomores, blue and green for the juniors, and orange and blue for the seniors! The third clip offered is a classy pearl clip, which features a cream base artfully adorned with white pearls. Investing in one of these clips won’t just augment your style, however, as the team at Clips for Love is donating 10% of their proceeds to the One Love foundation. One Love is a national nonprofit dedicated to ending relationship violence, and your purchase of a clip will help fund their valiant cause.
Second Chance Scents sells beautifully curated fragrances and car air fresheners. Currently, they offer two different perfumes, and two car fresheners. Each of the fragrances comes in a hand-held perfume mister, allowing for convenient application. For customers seeking a calming, soothing scent, Second Chance Scents offers Lavender Bouquet. The second fragrance is Sunburst, a beachy scent smelling of coconut and vanilla. Sunburst is also offered as a scent in car fresheners, allowing customers to enjoy the scent on-the-go. Car fresheners are also available in Coconut Vanilla, infusing every road adventure with a taste of summer. By indulging in a fragrance, customers support House of Ruth, a women’s shelter that provides second chance at life to women and children who have experienced violence. 10% of profits will be donated to this honorable cause.
Shine and Shelter retails ambient 8 oz soy wax candles in a variety of themes, each reflecting the NDP community. The NDP Crest Candle, which offers a vanilla and unscented option, prominently features the school’s crest, reflecting the community’s history. Also offered in vanilla and unscented is the NDP Dress Candle, which features the school’s beloved uniform on the jar, representing the community’s unity. Offered exclusively in vanilla are the Gym Meet candles, each jar featuring a class banner decorated to match a class theme. The Class of 2029 candle features their pink and mint banner with a racetrack. The Class of 2028 candle has their pink and yellow banner adorned with features of the Big Apple. The Class of 2027 candle shows their blue and green banner with Christmas lights and holiday cheer. The Class of 2026 candle features their blue and orange banner with emblems of Grease. Shine and Shelter has pledged a percentage of their profits to be donated to Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelters (BARCS), which helps connect animals to their fur-ever homes. Purchase of a candle will help support the shelter and its respected mission.
Each of these businesses offer the NDP community a chance to treat themselves to a claw clip, fragrance, or candle, while simultaneously making contributions to an honorable cause. If you haven’t made a purchase yet, consider visiting one of these businesses for a Gym Meet gift, or a gift for yourself! Happy shopping!
