Everyone, get excited, because the Gateway is bringing back Club Spotlight! This month, readers can meet Macy MacDonnell and Hayden Imbriale, the two co-presidents of the Red Cross Club here at NDP! This club is so important to highlight, especially now, since they are having one of their biggest events of the year. Keep reading for a Q and A with the girls who lead NDP’s life-saving efforts!
How long have both of you been on the leadership team for the Red Cross Club?
H: This will be my second year on the leadership team.
M: Same as Hayden, it is also my second year on the club’s leadership team.
What do you think is the most important thing for NDP girls to know about the Red Cross Club’s efforts? What is the club’s mission?
H: The Red Cross does so much more than just blood drives. They help soldiers overseas and, in the US, they spearhead disaster relief for any kind of natural disaster.
M: The purpose of our club is to support the American Red Cross mission by engaging in community service, promoting humanitarian values, and educating members on disaster preparedness, blood services, and support for the armed forces.
What kinds of meetings and activities does the club participate in?
H: We hold meetings to help gain volunteers for upcoming club events. For example, the blood drive and tables at lunch educate the NDP community on what we are raising money for.
M: Last year, we collected money to send aid to help with the wildfires in California. During the holidays, our club gets together, and we make handmade cards to send to US troops who are overseas for the holidays and can’t be with their families.
What was your favorite memory or the most impactful event you participated in with the club?
H: The most impactful thing I have learned from our events is how scarce blood and blood donations are. It truly makes me so thankful to everyone who decides to donate their blood. Every drop makes a difference!
M: My favorite memory of the club was our first Blood Drive. This moment was impactful, seeing all the people willing to volunteer and save many lives. I’m also really looking forward to our upcoming Blood Drive this year, which will be on November 3rd from 12-6 pm at NDP’s auxiliary building! Everyone should sign up and donate –> https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=NDPREPMD
As Macy and Hayden said, the blood drives and efforts of the Red Cross Club span so far and help so many people, no matter how big the donation. Stay tuned for future Club Spotlight interviews to learn about what you can participate in at NDP!
