The Hula Hoops, Denim Ravens, “Tracksketball”, Camo, and the Benchwarmers. These were just some of the teams that played in NDP’s intramural basketball tournament.

The games were a grueling 8 minutes of sprinting up and down the court. After two 4-minute halves, a winner was declared, and all participants shook hands and trudged off to homeroom.

The costumes this year ranged from functional to creative, with the Tracksketball team wearing their matching track team shirts and the Denim Ravens wearing their signature “dad” outfits. The Benchwarmers team sported an array of professional basketball jerseys. I spoke to Emily Cooper from the Denim Ravens team about the inspiration behind their theme. “Actually, the real name is Denim Ravens silent rainbow,” she said. Denim Ravens silent rainbow? Where did that come from? “Well, it is a combination of people from two Wand Woman intramural teams. The rainbow denim team merged with the ravens team.” The Denim Ravens silent rainbow is a perfect example of what NDP intramurals is all about – having fun and making friends.

There were teams from every grade, but the final game came down to the Benchwarmers (a senior team) and the Yellow team (a junior team) This game was very close, with a small student section cheering the players on as the spirit banner was at stake. After a close game, the Benchwarmers pulled through with a win and gave the seniors yet another banner.
