Romance, drama, and a flesh-eating plant. These elements, and more, are a part of the musical Little Shop of Horrors, which NDP Theater brought to life on April 24-26. This musical tells the story of Seymour (played by Cormac O.), a shy man who works at a plant shop. After a solar eclipse, he discovers a mysterious plant and names it Audrey II (played by Oliver K.), after his crush, Audrey (played by Josie D. ’29), who works at the same plant shop. The plant attracts many customers to the plant shop; however, Seymour discovers something startling about Audrey II: she seems to thrive on human blood. As the days go by, she becomes more and more demanding, which causes Seymour to start feeding her human victims. He struggles to keep Audrey II satisfied, questioning the moral implications of his actions while also trying to get Audrey out of an abusive relationship with her boyfriend, Orin (played by Luke D.), and packing up the courage to admit his feelings to her. 

This production took an incredible amount of hard work and dedication from all the people involved. Rehearsals started right after Gym Meet ended, and with only less than two months before opening night, songs and dances had to be learned, lines memorized, and lighting and sound cues had to be right on time. A special skill, puppeteering, also had to be mastered in order to bring Audrey II to life. However, the devoted cast and crew members gave it all they got, and they certainly made NDP’s last show of the school year one to remember! 

Congratulations to the cast and crew that were involved in this amazing production! Your hard work and talent were certainly visible throughout all the performances! We will miss you next year and are forever grateful for all you have done to help NDP Theater flourish!
