Hello, everyone! Happy March! I hope you all are doing well. With the stress of Gym Meet, I know we can all get overwhelmed around this time of year. I put together some songs that will relieve your stress, but also get you hyped! I also included some throwbacks from past senior Gym Meet routines. Enjoy!

  1. “Sacrifice”- The Weeknd
    • “’Cause life is still worth living, Yeah, this life is still worth living”
    • This song is so fun to sing, and it is very catchy. The guitar and layering of voices in the background sound amazing. The Weeknd is always great so it is no surprise that he released another hit!
  2. “After the Storm (feat. Tyler, The Creator & Bootsy Collins)”- Kali Uchis
    • “Whatever goes around eventually comes back to you”
    • This motivating tune by Kali Uchis reminds you that even during the storm when it seems like nothing can go your way in life, there will always be sun after the storm.
  3. “Boys Will Be Boys”- Dua Lipa
    • “If you’re offended by this song, you’re clearly doing something wrong”
    • In this song, Dua Lipa encourages society against disregarding men’s inappropriate actions by just saying “oh, boys will be boys”. Women in our society have been taught to learn to live with men’s outrageous behaviors just because they are “immature” and “will never grow up”. Dua Lipa says that kids are shown this way of thinking on TV, in their schools, and in their homes. She speaks out against the double standard.
  4. “Sol Del Sur”- Sun Room
    • “I heard the sun don’t leave, It stays, And it shines, All day, All the time”
    • This is a great song by the fun beachy band, Sun Room. They are from California and sing all of their songs about the excitement of summer. This song means “Southern Sun”. I was lucky enough to see this song performed live by the band, and it was a great experience.
  5. “Cruisin’ for a Brusin’”- Ross Lynch, Jason Evigan, & Grace Phipps
    • “I got a gang full of bruisers all cruising with me”
    • This song from, in my opinion, one of the best DCOMs ever, is a great track and perfect to go along with the Freshman Gym Meet. Good luck Freshmen and have fun!
  6. “Seven Nation Army”- The White Stripes
    • “A seven-nation army couldn’t hold me back”
    • Go Sophomore Super Bowl! Seven Nation Army is the ultimate Raven’s pump-up song and a great Gym Meet pump-up song. Good Luck Sophomores!
  7. “Royals”- Lorde
    • “We’ll never be royals”
    • Junior Queens, this one is for you! The juniors are celebrating their third Gym Meet and they have Lorde singing to them. This is a great song about accepting where you are in life, and not feeling pressured to go along with the crowd. Good Luck Juniors!
  8. “Wonderland”- Taylor Swift
    • “We found wonderland, You and I got lost in it, And life was never worse, but never better”
    • This fantastic song by Taylor Swift that alludes to Alice in Wonderland goes perfectly with the Senior Gym Meet. Good Luck to my Senior sisters of red and blue in our last Gym Meet!
  9. “I’ll Be There For You (Long Version)”- The Rembrandts
    • “I’ll be there for you, ’cause you’re there for me too”
    • This is a throwback from the Class of 2022’s first Gym Meet in 2019. We aerobicized to this “Friends” hit. This song reminds us Seniors that we will always be there for each other, even when we are miles apart next year.
  10. “Best Song Ever”- One Direction
    • “And I know you know, I hope you’ll remember How we danced”
    • I added one last throwback as the final song on the playlist. In 2019, the Freshman class of 2022 danced to “Best Song Ever”. This song has a great beat and it always puts me in a good mood.
