After many complaints about the “final” season of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers decided to make one more season to redeem themselves. On March 20th, 2026, the Duffers announced via Twitter that a new season of Stranger Things was in the works. However, few fans saw this announcement because they either didn’t have Twitter, or they unfollowed the Duffer Brothers after the awful final season. To sum up their Tweet, the new season will have 7 new episodes, each an hour and a half long. Season 6 will take place immediately after season 5 and will start with the core group at Mike’s house. The Duffers also tried to get the original cast to all come back, but unfortunately Joe Keery, Maya Hawk, and Finn Wolfhard refused to return. They will be replaced by their stunt doubles, and AI will be used to make them look exactly like the actors.
Many fans were also dissatisfied with many of the final couples, so the Duffers decided to break up all the couples. This includes Lucas, Max, Joyce, Hopper, Ted, Karen, Charles Sinclair, and Sue Sinclair. One main problem that the Duffers said they will face is their budget. Season 5 disappointed so many critics and sponsors that all the Duffers could get for a budget was $37.00 and a $20 amazon gift card (gifted by their mother). Another challenge is due to the low budget; the Duffers will not have a crew to help film, edit, or script. They were also denied permission from Netflix to use their platform to air the season. Instead, they will have to upload the season to YouTube. Often brilliant producers get sloppy due to an excess of resources and material, so this clean slate might be just what the Duffers need to make a cinematic masterpiece.
