Instrumental Spring Concert 2019

Emily Thomas, Staff Writer

On Thursday, May 2, the walls of the NDP auditorium were filled with the wonderful music of the Concert Band, String Orchestra, and Jazz Band. Because the concerts were split up this year, each ensemble had the opportunity to play more pieces.

The Concert Band played five pieces at the concert. In addition to their festival pieces, they played “Music for a Darkened Theatre,” a spooky song, and “Block M,” a fast march.

The Jazz Band also played five pieces including “Respect” by Aretha Franklin and “Take the A Train” by Billy Strayhorn. On Saturday, they played music for the elders at Dinner with the Elderly.

The String Orchestra played three very interesting pieces. The first was a compilation of different Queen songs, including “We Will Rock You,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” and “We are the Champions.” The final piece was called “Capriccio Espagnol” which contains movements of Spanish music and culture.

Overall, the Instrumental Concert was very entertaining and a great way to display the hard work throughout the year! Congratulations to all the seniors; we will miss you next year!
