Earth Day, a holiday celebrated every year on April 22nd since 1970, is a day full of respect and gratitude for our wonderful planet. All around the world, people celebrate our Earth by prioritizing its care in many ways, and after reading this article, you can too!
In Japan, people enjoy a two-day festival in Yoyogi Park, celebrating art, music, and countless healthy food items sourced right from nature.
Recently, India has taken extra measures to preserve the Asian Elephant, a native and highly endangered species. India is spreading the word all throughout its country, joining the nation together to save not only the Asian Elephant, but to spread awareness about all endangered species on the globe.
However, it’s not just animal health people are preserving. In Canada, the #Pledge4Play campaign focuses on getting the younger generations away from screens and outdoors. Since 2017, this campaign (run primarily in Vancouver) helps to bring back outdoor playgrounds and facilities to bring children outside, helping them have fun with friends while getting their daily dose of fresh air.
Likewise, in the Philippines, the world’s largest “Earth Day Run” is hosted every year, a tradition to promote wellness and exercise all while spending time outside. This fun community event hosts races from 5Ks to even 42Ks, making this event suitable for all to enjoy.
In the United States, rallies and gatherings are held, such as the “March for Science,” and thousands of community clean-ups and festivals are hosted to preserve our Earth. While the rest of the world has their large-scale contributions to taking care of our planet, how can we contribute in our own communities this Earth Day?
Common acts of service to our planet could range from planting trees in your neighborhood, or hosting a clean-up in a communal area, such as a park or another area that may need some love. Even the simplest acts, such as using biodegradable products, or biking instead of driving, can help to make an impact.
Thanks to Earth Day, we are reminded annually to conserve our planet. Around the globe, communities are striving to take care of nature to preserve the Earth for future generations. On this year’s Earth day, remember to go the extra mile, help our planet any way you can, and give our Earth some love!
