Please enjoy this poem that explores the passing of time and embracing the new season!
As the summer season comes to a close
And I see the first red and orange leaves
My heart starts to sink
This means change is coming
And while sometimes I like change
This upcoming change is making me more nervous
Than I have ever felt in my life
High school means growing up
A process I wished would just slow down
It means harder courses and more piles of work
Something that just stresses me out
It means that whatever I do in these next four years
May determine the college I attend and
The kind of life that I’ll live
And I don’t think I’m ready to start
Planning that far ahead
But I realize that not everything can
Always stay the same
Just like the trees’ leaves
Can’t stay green year-round
I can’t always live the same life
Change means growth
And a person can’t live
If they don’t grow
So I’ll embrace the opportunities
That have been so graciously given to me
I’ll balance being an adult and being a kid
I’ll learn from the challenging classes I’ll be taking
And I’ll dive into all the possibilities that are offered
To learn more about who I am and what interests me
As more trees’ leaves start to change into
The vibrant colors of autumn
I now carry myself with a sense of calm
Knowing that high school isn’t as scary as it seems
It’s a chance to indulge into everything
That life has to offer
