The NDP volleyball season was concluded on Saturday, November 1st at Roland Park during a nail biting game vs. Spalding School for girls. Leading up to that championship game, there were quarter finals as well as semifinals. The quarter final game was played Tuesday the 14th against Seton Keough. The Blazer volleyball team beat Keough in three short games to advance to the semifinals. The semifinal game, Thursday January 30th, was one of the most intense games of the season. Just a day later, the 31st, of last year the MDSA sailors beat the Blazers in five sets, knocking them out of the playoffs. That game was one of the worst moments of the season, and the Blazers vowed revenge against their rivals, the Mount De Sales Sailors. Luckily, the Blazers got a chance to play the Sailors again in semifinals of this year. This was their chance to reconcile for the loss of last year. The games were close, but the Blazers beat the Sailors in three sets, advancing to the finals! After that game, the captains, Anna Carmen, Natalie Garinther, and Francesca Zink, gathered the girls for a pep talk. They said that the girls had finally beaten the Sailors, and they should feel great about their accomplishment, but the season was not over yet! “Championships are upon us, and we did not come this far just to take second place!” cheered Anna Carmen. So the Blazers advanced to the championship game against Spalding School for Girls on November 1st, 2014.   The game was a nail bitter with Spalding taking the first set, then crushing the Blazers 18-25 in the second set. If Spalding won one more set, the Blazers would lose the championships. The Blazers rallied together and won that third set 25-23. After having won the third set, the Blazers got serious and realized this is what they had been working for all year, and they were going to win it. The fourth set was also close, but the Blazers pulled ahead and won 25-21. It was down to the fifth set. Every girl on the NDP volleyball team was ecstatic and louder than ever before; meanwhile, Spalding was shaking in the knees. The fifth set is played up until fifteen, and the Blazers had an 8-1 lead right at the beginning. By then, the team knew they had it. The final point was served by team captain Anna Carmen, and the Blazers stole the win 15-4. For the first time in NDP history the Blazers Volleyball team were the champions of the IAAM A conference. It was truly an amazing game, and every girl played her heart out.
