“This is Halloween, this is Halloween

Pumpkins scream in the dead of night

This is Halloween, everybody make a scene

Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright

It’s our town, everybody scream

In this town of Halloween!”

Like Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas said, “This is Halloween!” Well…it almost is anyway. Which means there are about a billion things you can do to get in the Halloween spirit.

Step 1: Movie Marathon

Whether it’s a classic horror film, or a spooky comedy, there are plenty of Halloween themed movies to choose from. Get a group of friends together, grab your favorite candy, and spend the night watching your favorite movies. If you’re not into scary films, here are some fun Halloween themed movies:

  • Halloweentown
  • Halloweentown III
  • Twitches
  • Twitches Too
  • Ghostbusters
  • Hocus Pocus
  • It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!
  • The Addams Family

Step 2: Haunted Houses

For those of you that love the thrill of being scared to death, you should totally visit a haunted house. Ask around your community and find out if any local places are holding haunted houses; most places do. For the intense thrill seekers, think about paying a visit to some of the scariest haunted attractions on the East coast.

  • Legends of the Fog (Aberdeen, MD)
  • Field of Screams (Olney, MD; Mountville, PA)
  • Bennett’s Curse (Jessup, MD)
  • Creepywoods Haunted Forest (Kingsville, MD)
  • Jason’s Woods (Lancaster, PA)

Step 3: Costumes, Candy, and Crafts:

It’s a whole day dedicated to being whatever YOU want to be, so go crazy with it! There are plenty of DIY costume for you to make. Get creative! You could go as a pun (like It’s Raining/Reigning Cats and Dogs, from New Girl), as an iconic character (like Flo from the progressive commercials), or as your favorite type of food (perhaps a chipotle burrito, or a Starbucks latte). No matter what you decide to be, you and your friends can get together and make your costumes. Not only can you get together to make your costumes, but there are tons of crafts that are super easy and fun to make. For example, painting pumpkins (real or fake) is an easy and fun way to get in the spirit. All you need is

  • Circular sponge brushes (to make perfect polka dots)
  • Normal paint sponges
  • Your favorite paint colors
  • Lots of glitter

When you’re finished, place them around your room to accessorize for the season. Finally, the best part about Halloween is the candy, so don’t forget to indulge in all your favorites this year! Happy (almost) Halloween!
