The last weekend of spring break, several NDP girls headed down to Annapolis to be a part of the YMCA’s Youth and Government conference. For those who do not know, Youth and Government or YAG is sort of like a mock state government. Many girls from NDP participated as either officers, delegates, press members, pages, or lobbyists. We spent three awesome days in the state house debating bills, pushing initiatives, creating newsletters, or making sure important notes get from person to person. While doing all of this, we were also learning what is really was to be a leader, and that is an extremely rewarding benefit to the program.
Another great thing about YAG was being able to see the sites of Annapolis. While you do not have too much free time, there is certainly enough to see a lot of Annapolis. Most of the days are spent in one of the biggest sites in Annapolis, the Statehouse. During lunch time, people were able to check out some of the best places to eat in Annapolis. One of the most popular places to eat was Sophie’s crepes, which most of us are familiar with Sophie’s as they have several other locations around Maryland.
YAG was a great experience and if you are interested in government or the program, I and most of the people who were involved would highly recommend it. It was an awesome weekend that was filled with a lot of fun and a lot new experiences.
