NDP Celebrates the Best of 2012
Every year, the NDP community gathers together for the high held tradition of the Senior Awards Assembly. At this ceremony, we honor the teachers and students that have exhibited exemplary behavior and grades among other attributes. The four most student-coveted awards include the NDP Medal, the Bene Merenti, the Service Medals and the White Blazer. Each award places a prestigious title upon its owner. This year, there were multiple winners for three of the categories. The NDP Medal was given to Hannah Hartman and Mary Kate Helm who, in accordance with the medal’s description, exhibit “excellence, leadership, cooperation and school spirit.” Hannah served this year as the senior class president, and Mary Kate served as the student council president. The Bene Merenti is presented to the student who has shown “the ideal concern for the service to others,” and was awarded to Sarah Fetcho and Morgan Malishchak. Mr. Pomplon raves that Sarah has “been absolutely integral to our service programs at NDP.” She has played a large part in making events such as the Umoja Party, the Douglass Homes Visit and the Refugee Youth Project trip. Sarah also initiated a women’s group in Douglass Home. The Service Award is usually received by two seniors, but this year will be awarded to three deserving students. The Service award is presented to seniors who have dedicated their four years in the NDP high school to service and justice for others. The girls being honored are Juliette Arcodia, Lonna Babu and Emily Toler. Each of these girls has demonstrated astounding dedication to service and helping others. Last, but certainly not least, is the White Blazer. The White Blazer is given to the girl who most accurately displays what it means to be an NDP student. This year, the White Blazer was given to Brogan Sheehey. Brogan has been involved in NDP service, sports and events over the course of her years at NDP. She will be missed and remembered as an integral part of the NDP community. All of the girls who received awards this year have done an excellent job in their studies, service and efforts at NDP. Congratulations, girls!
