Baltimore Farmers’ Market and Bazaar

Emma Beernink, Staff Writer

Let’s be real for one second – I love farmers’ markets. They are great places to explore, whether you’re out shopping for groceries or just looking for something fun to do on a weekend morning. Recently, my mom and I found a new gem: the Baltimore Farmers’ Market and Bazaar.

Located downtown underneath the Jones Falls Expressway, at the Holliday and Saratoga streets, this hidden treasure is incredible. The first time I ever visited, it was packed. When I say packed, it was swarmed with people of all ages and all sorts of different backgrounds.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. “Why would I want to get boring lettuce under 83?” Oh, it’s so much more. There are the traditional produce stands, but mixed in with the rest, are quirky businesses selling art and kettle corn. So, there’s really something for everyone!

However, if you are searching for great local produce, this farmers’ market is the one for you. Just recently, my mom and I visited and ended up walking home with two pounds of lima beans, a pound of black beans, sweet potatoes, a crate full of pansies, and a dog treat. That’s right. I spent one dollar. On a dog treat.

This place is honestly wonderful, and because I feel nice, I’m going to give you some tips and tricks for navigating the labyrinth of the Baltimore Farmers’ Market and Bazaar.

  • Bring a bag. A good old grocery bag will suffice.
  • Park in the Mercy Medical Center Garage. They offer free parking while the market is in session! Plus, it’s right across the street from the market. Look for these green signs.

  • Make sure you get your parking pass validated at the green welcome tent. Here’s what it looks like!

  • Walk around once, note things you want to buy, and then do a walk-through again and actually buy the items.
  •  The earlier, the better. It opens up around 7:00 AM, and closes around noon, or until sell-out. The later it gets, the more people are there. It’s just science. So get there early.

The market closes in late December, so let me know if you decide to stop by! ~
